I reckon a copier can do about 5-10/minute shooting tethered into Aperture say. Then a bit of automated Photoshop to invert the negs. That would be 50 times quicker than scanning.

There is no way I'm waiting 1000.4/60 = 67 hours per thousand slides for a scanner to do its thing on 95% rubbish images I'd never print or look at again.
